Where is Rev. Allen Hill?
RTW Connection: Josiah Project Team 1
Current Ministry: Founder and Rector (Dean), Saints Augustine Seminary
Location: Lima, Peru
Q: Do you have any recent stories of God transforming the lives of young people in a radical way?
A: In Peru, shame is a stronghold that oppresses many young people, particularly the indigenous Andeans. Having been conquered by the Spanish, they have been told for years that their race is less valuable and that their language is a "dog's language." Through a recent inner healing conference held by the seminary, we prayed with many youth and saw God move powerfully to free them from this burden of shame. This freedom has enabled them to move forward in leadership in the diocese.
Q: What does your current ministry with young adults involve?
A: The purpose of The Saints Augustine Seminary is to train up Peruvian leaders from the Anglican Diocese of Peru for both ordained and lay ministry throughout Latin America. This includes training and equipping youth ministers (that is, both ministers who are themselves young and older folk who minister to youth).
Q: What is the most exciting thing God is doing in your ministry right now?
A: This is a very exciting time because we are moving into fantastic new seminary facilities and have several highly-qualified new professors joining our staff in the near future. In addition, our students are starting to feel a sense of ownership of the seminary such that they are taking the initiative and driving our student life themselves.
Q: What is the most challenging thing happening in your ministry right now?
A: The frustration of not being able to provide the level of training I want to provide because of a lack of funding.
Q: What specific training/skills/wisdom from your time at Rock the World are you applying to your current ministry?
A: Rock the World has taught me lots of things, but two things in particular stand out. First, Rock the World taught me to dare to dream big things for God, and gave me confidence that God can use me despite my weaknesses. Second, Rock the World taught me how essential "incarnational ministry" is. I was challenged to risk going to where people are to form relationships with them--to come alongside others in their spiritual journey so that together we can grow closer to the Lord.
